Situated a short walk out of the centre of Cardiff on City Road, A Shot In The Dark is a cafe/bar/venue that stays open late with occasional live music events.
Inside there’s the usual mix of chairs, tables and comfy sofas making this a handy place for a quick snack or to relax with a paper.
The food menu was varied with lots of veggie options (huzzah!), home-made cakes and other delicacies, and the service was friendly and quick.
Pricing was reasonable, albeit perhaps a tad upmarket for the area.
We went for the tasty cheese platter, and there was certainly no shortage of the stuff on our plate!
The salad dressing was lovely -as was the pickle – although some of the toasted pitta bread was tooth-challengingly hard.
The fair-trade coffee was pretty good too but seeing as I’ve been spoilt by living so close to Federation Coffee in Brixton, I realise I’m in danger of turning into a hoity toity coffee snob.
Upstairs room.
The bar is licensed, so there’s a wide selection of wines on offer, plus there’s free wi-fi available.
Offering a relaxing atmosphere in the daytimes with late openings and live performances in the evenings, this is easily one of the best coffee bars in Cardiff.
