Dereliction in Silvertown
An abandoned church in Silvertown, east London

Now fully restored and serving as a community centre, St Mark's Church, Silvertown was in a rum old state when I visited it back in the mid-eighties.
Designed in 1862 by S S Teulon and built on the site of an 1857 'iron' building, the church is situated on the corner of Albert Road and Factory Road.
The imposing structure served the community until closing in 1974. In 1981 it was seriously damaged by fire and remained derelict for many years. It has since been fully restored.
Fire damaged roof detail.
View from the mid-1970s before the fire.
