There’s been a record shop occupying this corner of Cardiff Central Market for as long as I can remember, and it’s great to see the place still thriving.
Located on the balcony level of Cardiff famous Central Market, the store occupies a fairly large space and there’s loads of room to browse.
Mainly catering in lovely old vintage vinyl, the store contains over 100,000 collectable records and is a magnet for serious collectors and 33/45rpm junkies.
The store is now owned by Allan Parkins, who took over the running of Kellys from his aunt and uncle, Phyllis and Eddie Kelly in the early 1990s.
The shop attracts orders and visitors from all over the world, as Parkins told Wales Online:
We’ve got a guy who comes over from Holland six times a year to visit us, and a guy who rings me from California in the middle of the night when he can’t sleep just to have a chat and order up some records.
There’s a dealer who comes over three times a year from Taiwan, and piles up records this high.
Then he has them shipped off back home. That’s always a good day when he lets us know he’s coming!
As well as vinyl, there’s also CDs, DVDs and even the odd VHS.
The shop also has a selection of autographed albums.
