Spent a pleasant couple of hours in Dover on Saturday – the first time I’d ever stopped off at the town rather than just going through it en route to France.
The town’s a mix of attractive Georgian architecture and ‘orrible identikit High Street shops, but the castle is really stunning.
There’s over 2,000 years of history on the site, and the Keep is truly massive!
My favourite was the Roman Pharos (lighthouse). Nearly two thousand years old, it’s the tallest surviving Roman building north of the Italian Alps that’s still standing.
