Although Christmas is a grand time to be with your family, I was delighted to be able to spend a couple of hours in splendid isolation walking through the Wenallt Woods on Christmas Day.
The weather wasn’t ideal – it didn’t stop raining for a moment – but that meant I only briefly saw one person on my travels.

The Wenallt (also known as Coed-y-Wenallt) is a 44 hectare area of semi natural ancient woodland to the north of Cardiff, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
