Despite near-freezing temperatures, a toupee-removing wind and drenching rain showers, there was no shortage of competitors and spectators at the Brixton Bolt event on Saturday.
Inspired by record-breaking athlete Usain Bolt, the event was the brainchild of Brixtonite Tom Shakhli who slapped the gauntlet down in SW9 and asked, “Who is the fastest in Brixton?”
The 100m race track was set up on Pope’s Road and the entrance fee for runners was just one pound, with all proceeds going to local charities.
With categories for under 11s, under 14s, under 16s, over 40s (men and women) as well as an all-comers adult challenge, Brixtonites young and old turned up to compete for a selection of prizes offered by local businesses.
