On Saturday the Mrs Mills Experience were invited back to play the Roman Road street market in London’s East End, this time to entertain the shoppers before the Christmas lights were turned on.
Two of the band getting ready to wheel the gear through the busy market.
A variety of street performers kept passers by happy, ready for the big switch on at 3pm.
We played the market a few weeks ago for the Mary Portas Channel Four TV programme, and it was great to be back, even if the temperatures were perilously close to zero.
They’d hired in a snow machine to bring in a bit of Christmas atmosphere and I can’t even explain how much I want one of these for our gig at the Brixton Albert on the 21st December!
The town crier was employed to below and holler at shoppers, and did a very good job of it.
I think it’s fair to say that the celeb chosen to turn on the lights wasn’t exactly ‘A’ list, although he seemed a perfectly decent chap.
Clutching the mic above is Gary Lucy, best known for his roles as DC Will Fletcher on ITV ‘s The Bill, Kyle Pascoe on Footballers’ Wives and Luke Morgan on the soap opera, Hollyoaks.
The lights are on!
Unfortunately we had to bugger off sharpish to get the van back, so I didn’t get chance to capture the market lights in all their modest glory, but I warmly recommend you pop along and take a look. It’s a lovely market with really friendly traders.
