Lambeth Green Party, Lambeth NUT and Lambeth Save Our Services are teaming up with UK Uncut on December 8th to protest against the tax-swerving antics of Starbucks.

On Saturday the 8th of December UK Uncut is targeting Starbucks who have been found to be avoiding massive amounts of tax. At a time when local services are being slashed, and the most vulnerable are suffering, Lambeth Green Party, Lambeth NUT and Lambeth Save Our Services are proud to be supporting a UK Uncut Action at the Brixton branch of Starbucks.
In order to highlight cuts to children’s services, and the threatened privatisation of our precious One O’Clock Clubs, we are turning the Brixton Starbucks into a One O’Clock Club. The action starts at midday so get in there early (I’ll be in there from 11.15am). Bring your own coffee, face paints, toys, books, felt tips, cake – and don’t forget to bring your kids!

I know that Starbucks avoid (don’t pay) taxes and that annoys us…..so Urban75 suggests we turn their shop into a One O’Clock Club? What’s the idea here – that our children are used as some sort of way of getting back at Starbucks? Urban 75 might as well go that bit further and say that they think kids are *so annoying* that the way to protest is to use kids to disrupt Starbucks. Well as a mother of 3 young children who love all the paints, toys, books, felt tip and paint as mentioned above, i’ll definitely be giving this one a miss. It sounds like a cheap stunt that would make most people feel a bit ikky about going to. I’m not the biggest fan of starbucks but they have nothing to do with the one o’clock clubs and remember they do employ local people too (as much as you’d like to hate them – they’re jobs for local guys out there).
@Localgirl Did you read the article? They are bringing along kids to highlight cuts to children’s services (ie services that could be retained if corporates paid the tax they owe).
Also by inviting families along more people can take part. And no, no-one is suggesting children are annoying.
Consumers are the largest and most powerful group of people in the UK. If people stood up for what they believe – instead of just complaining about tax avoidance – things would change VERY quickly.
This is a fun and creative way to make a stand. Protests don’t have to be dry and agressive.
