Drinking and stripping the willow at a Burns night ceilidh in Stockwell

There was a feast of fiddles, banjos, dancing, clapping and, indeed, some falling over to be had last night at the Grosvenor in Stockwell as the No Frills Band put on an early Burns night Ceilidh.

A ceilidh is a traditional Gaelic social gathering, which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing and –  obviously – liberal dashings of alcohol.

One of the more lively dances is called ‘Strip the willow‘ and this involves a lot of spinning around. It was a heap of fun.

After the band had finished we were treated to a DJ set of  massive banging tunes by Mickie Ainsworth and – och aye! – Archie McCulloch. Awesome!
