Although it was undeniably useful as a car park, Brixton Pope’s Road multi storey car park was an utterly charmless slab of mean and oppressive architecture, and I’m delighted to see the back of the place.
On Sunday, the last remaining vestige of the car park – the grim concrete pedestrian bridge that linked the car park to the adjacent Brixton Rec – was pulled down.
Here’s how it looked:
The steps on the car park side appear to have just fallen backwards into the demolition site.
A digger now sits on the vast pile of rubble where the car park stood. The site will now be used for a controversial temporary ice rink.
