After a big night out, there’s little I crave more than a strong cup of top-notch coffee, so this weekend I found myself seeking out the best brew in downtown Birmingham – and no cafe came more recommended than the 6/8 Kafe in Temple Row.
An independent coffee-house of some repute, 6/8 is situated next to a small park housing St Philip’s cathedral, a diminutive affair which can claim to be the third smallest cathedral in England.
Inside was neat, modern and tidy, with the wooden counter showing off a tasty selection of freshly prepared rolls, snacks and cakes on offer.
I went for a mature cheese roll and it was delicious.
The enthusiastic owner explained that the shop uses beans supplied by Has Bean, a Stafford-based roastery, and the coffee was, as expected, very good indeed (although perhaps not with as much kick as I’d prefer).
Open for just over a year, the 6/8 hosts a rotating gallery showing off the work of local artists, as well as hosting one-off events.
With its friendly staff, great snacks and good coffee, this is certainly a cafe I’ll return to next time I’m up in Brum. Recommended!
