This is the spectacular sight of a herd of wooden elephants seen outside the Saatchi Gallery off King’s Road in Chelsea.
The life-sized sculptures are on display ahead of being sold for charity and to raise awareness for ‘CoExistence’, an environmental art campaign that aims to raise funds for conservation projects that enable people and wildlife to live peacefully alongside each other.
All of the 100 Asian elephants was made by communities in the Nilgiri Hills of Southern India, and crafted from Lantana camara, a toxic plant that is causing a reduction in biodiversity.
The elephants are on a global tour, and will only be in London for a couple of months.
At the moment, you can spot them by the Duke of York Square, outside the Saatchi Gallery, and on some nearby streets, before they roam over to Green Park, St James’s Park and Berkeley Square from 14th June to 23rd July 2021.
