This short walk starts at Kings Cross tube station, takes you along the canal towpath from Kings Cross to Camden and then through Regent’s Park and on to Warren Street tube.
The route is just 7.km/4.4 miles long, and is easy terrain throughout. It’s a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, with lots of items of interest along the journey.
Here’s the route marked out on the map.
We started out at King’s Cross, walking past the building work on Google’s mega-HQ and past Coal Drop Yards.
It’d easy to pick out the towpath by Coal Drop Yards, and we then headed north-west towards Camden.

The canal had recently been dredged, with all sorts of strange objects emerging from the waters.

The route takes you under multiple Victorian bridges.
A ‘Boris Bike’ was amongst the objects dredged up from the canal.
There was even a keyboard amongst the items hauled up from the canal bed.

Time Out reported:
The duckweed itself isn’t harmful but as it gets thicker it can starve other wildlife in the canals of oxygen and trap litter which causes problems for boats, so the Canal River Trust is working to remove it as quickly as they can.
In one week this year, they removed 70 tonnes of the green stuff.
We took a quick look around Camden market.

The canal takes a sharp right turn as it nears Regent’s Park. Behind can be seen the Feng Shang Princess, a floating red pagoda Chinese restaurant,
The canalside walk becomes quite bucolic as it tracks alongside Regent’s Park.

Bonus update!
If you fancy extending the walk by a mile or so, we strongly recommend diverting up Primrose Hill before cutting back through Regent’s Oark,
It’s an easy climb with spectacular views at the top.

Mike -such a treat to look at these photographs and to read your stuff in general -it was yesterday after watching a woeful Cardiff get tonked by Sheff Weds at the empty CCS, that i started reading your review of pub bands in the 70’s that really cheered me up. Mikey I hope you get to read this and if you can remember me ? I am Eugene Sullivan AKA Unc or U.N.C.L.E from Ely, I used to be a punk until around late 78 or early 79 when i first met you. We go back a long time Mike,even before being at Southend on that Bank Holiday 79 mods weekend, which was magical by the way 🙂 I think
The last time i saw you was when (over 40 years ago) getting a lift in the back of your van after a Beggar gig in the Electric Ballroom (?) to my mates gaff in Pimlico/Vauxhall . Bumped into each other by sheer chance in Wardour street I think – the rest is a haze..
Before then back in Cardiff I would go out with you on the town,I used to spend some quality time with you looking back Mike,you and Lesley at gigs mainly,or even down Monty’s or in those other clubs: The Moon, Smileys The Lexington, The Casablanca, The Dowlais, Great Western, I even went to your family home in Rhwbina, (I think I was there to do some illustrations or cartoons) It was when you were writing your earliest punk fanzines.
Life is what happens when your busy making other plans innit …
We lost touch when you moved to London
BUT it is joy to see you today -still doing cool things,still keeping the faith with The City and still putting out good vibes.
