London photos: BP Portrait Prize, street scenes and sculptures, July 2018

Here’s a series of photos from my walk around central London yesterday, including scenes from the BP Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, the Photographer’s Gallery and some snaps from around Soho.

My first stop was at the Photographer’s Gallery, where I took a quick look around the bookshop and saw some excellent prints from the Tish Murtha exhibition that is currently on display in the main gallery.

I’ll definitely return to see the full show soon. Here’s a video about the photographer.

There’s a fantastic bookstore in the basement of the Photographer’s Gallery.

And they still sell old fashioned Ilford film!

Walking down to the National Portrait Gallery.

A mystery queue.

Closing time at the market.

Looking at the work on show in this year’s BP Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery.

The work was stunning.

The first prize winner, ‘An Angel At My Table’ by Miriam Escofet was an astonishing piece of work.  See all the winners here.

There’s plenty to see in the Gallery.

In Room 29 can be found, ‘Photography: A Public Art, 1840 – 1939,’ displaying classic images and rarely seen gems of artists, writers and actors by Edward Steichen, James Abbe, Berenice Abbott, Cecil Beaton and Dorothy Wilding among others.
