Costing a cool £24m and the result of several years work, the roof renewal project at London’s bustling Victoria railway terminus is finally reaching completion.
Hefty scaffolding
The project involved erecting a huge scaffolding ‘protection deck’ above the tracks, which sat on a purpose built gantry.
For commuters, it seemed like the scaffolding has been there for an eternity, but finally the original roof can now be seen above the tracks, freshly refurbished and repainted and looking like new.
The work saw the roof being re-clad and re-glazed, with contractors May Gurney also repairing and repainting the roof steelwork, improving the underground drainage system and providing new M&E (mechanical & electrical) services.
Now a stately 146-years old, the refurbishment should prolong the life of the Grade II listed structure for another 75 years, and, no doubt, make for a more pleasant experience for travellers.
