Spotted in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, I snapped a photo of this guy because he really reminded me of the character I’d drawn for my Cardiff City football comic, Bluebird Jones.
The character – called 70s Man – had woken up after being in a coma since the 1970s, and had returned to Ninian Park in a state of constant bafflement with the changes in football.
Given what’s been happening at Cardiff recently, I think it could be time for a comeback.
70s Man comic strips
70s Man goes to France
70s Man gets a job!
70’s Man goes disco
70s Man at the match
70s Man away game
This is nothing. The most 70’s man spotted out of time was on the German Railways in 1988 when I was travelling to see a Frank Zappa gig. He wore square glasses, a dark brown trenchcoat a gringo moustache greasy hair just touching his collar, polyester trousers shiny in the worn regions and..and platform soled boots the uppers just covered by the polyester flares. He was carrying a worn attache case.
