I was rather impressed by the Store Street Espresso cafe in Bloomsbury, so was keen to check out their new premises at Continental Stores, on 54 Tavistock Place, WC1.
Although it’s only a jaunty ten minutes walk northeast of the original Store Street Espresso (and a short stroll from Kings Cross station), it has quite a different vibe, being much smaller than the original and -at least when we were there – being nowhere near as busy.
For coffee geeks, there’s the same set of caffeine based pleasures on offer as before, with a pleasing array of cunning brewing machines and a good selection of fine beans and blends to choose from.
A tasty selection of cakes and pastries can be found hovering above the counter on a glass display shelf, while we ordered a couple of toasted sandwiches which were ruddy delicious.
Like the original Store Street Espresso, the Continental Stores shop is also long and thin inside, with a separate seating area at the back.
There’s plenty of big windows at the front with a skylight and window at the back, making it a bright and airy place to imbibe a coffee or two, or whip out the laptop and get on with some work.
There’s also some benches at the front for a bit of people watching.
The verdict:
I really liked this new branch of Store Street Espresso, and it’s certainly one I’ll check out next time in the area.
The coffee was a good as you might expect, the ambience nicely laid back and the food was very tasty indeed.
But do I prefer it to the original Store Street Espresso in Bloomsbury? I think I just might!
