There’s not many bars I can think of that double up as a flower shop, but the Sycamore at Cortelyou Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11218 can boast that that rare distinction.
Named after the sycamore trees in nearby Ditmas Park, the bar offers a temptingly wide range of beers (with pints costing from $3-$8) plus bourbons, ryes, wines and whiskeys, and bar snacks. There’s also the option to buy a ‘beer and a bouquet’ for $10, which is a nice touch.
You can’t go wrong with Coney Island lager. I wish I’d nicked this glass though!
The bar staff were friendly and welcoming, and the clientèle was pleasantly mixed too.
The back yard area – there’s also a separate live music/performance area known as the ‘whiskey cellar, hosting less mainstream acts, with shows usually on a few times each week.
Looking towards the bar entrance.
We drank rather a lot at this bar and rather enjoyed ourselves, so we’d definitely say it’s worth a visit of you’re after a quiet drink in a friendly tavern.
