Here’s a handful of photos from my trip to Hay on Wye some time ago.
It’s clearly a place full of trusting and honest people because many of the bookshops just had ‘honesty boxes’ provided. Mind you, they can’t be that trusting , because the owners of many of the boxes also saw fit to add, “Note: Boxes emptied daily.”
The going rate seemed to be 50p for hardbacks and 30p for paperbacks.
You’d have to be a right meanie to avoid paying such a small amount for a book.

It would be interesting to know what the honesty percentage is. I must confess whilst unemployed and skint in the early 2000s, I regularly used to short change the honesty box at WHSmith when picking up the Guardian.
I note those honesty boxes aren’t there any more, so it can’t have been just me
Thanks for informing about this wonderful town as this is the best place for book lovers and previous month i visited this town with my husband and believe me it was a wonderful experience. You can find more information @: http://www.chiveup.com/hay-on-wye-the-books-town/
