We’ll be celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Dogstar in Brixton next Saturday, 31st Aug 2024 – and you’re welcome to come along!

urban75, one of the UK’s longest serving community websites, will be holding a big free party in Brixton on Saturday 31st August to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Founded by activist Mike Urban in 1994, the site has its roots in an anti racist comic sold on the football terraces in the early nineties.
With the comic taking on issues such as the impact of the Criminal Justice Bill on football fans, it made sense to move online to reach as many people as possible – and so the first iteration of the site was born.
As the site expanded to take on related issues such as campaign reports, legal rights for protesters, rave updates and drug information, it rapidly became one of the UK’s busiest websites.
With the site attracting thousands of visitors every day, it quickly had to find a way to pay the soaring server costs – so it became crowdfunded before the word was ever invented!
The heart of the site remains its forum community which still remains hugely active, containing nearly 19 million posts and attracting up to 2,500 posts a day.
The forum provides an invaluable source of local, national and international news, discussions and memes for thousands of its members, and what sets it apart from other social media sites is that it carries no advertising whatsoever, accepts no sponsorship and keeps all user data completely private. The anti-Facebook, if you will.
FREE PARTIES
For twenty years, the site has also hosted free parties and gigs around Brixton, and over the years has seen big names such as Stewart Lee, Alabama 3, Fat White Family and Richard Herring perform, while their regular DJ nights at the Effra Social in Brixton continue to be hugely popular.
30th Anniversary party
To celebrate their 30th anniversary, urban75 will be hosting a big free party at the Brixton Dogstar, 389 Coldharbour Lane, London SW9 8LQ on Saturday, 31st August 2024, with DJs playing fun tunes from 10pm to 2am.
