Brixton: lost pubs: TWO WOODCOCKS
45, Tulse Hill, Brixton, London, SW2 2TJ
Described as a charming little pub with Ye Olde decor, friendly locals and cheap drinks, the Two Woodcocks was a quiet boozer that occasionally sprung into life with discos, Irish music nights and karaoke.
Never a busy boozer, this unsung little pub finally closed its doors some time in mid 2006.
COMMENT: "It wasn't a great pub, but it wasn't bad either. It's one of the few pubs in the area where you could have a quiet pint and a game of darts on a whim.
Good bar snacks (Taytos included) and one of those old fashioned juke boxes that spanned the classic rock pantheon, irish marching songs and enough over-exposed Motown to sink an armada of cheese-carrying vessels.
Nothing quite like a game of arrows to the sound of Lionel's 'Dancing On the Ceiling,' followed by Danny Boy.
I even won the two last games of darts in there, which made me warm to the place.
I strangely miss it in there a little - it was a nice change once in a while. Sadly, at least one of the regulars in there seems now to have transferred his allegiance to a milk crate outside one of the convenience stores, sitting there for goodly chunks of the day."
