Southend away, January 13th January 2001
The kindest thing you can say about this stadium is that it's 'intimate'. Hemmed in by modern housing development, this boxed in micro-ground screams, "low ambition" and apart from the singing of the City fans there, it was pretty much low volume too. Still, Southend has the bonus of being by the sea, even if Morrissey's 'Every Day is like Sunday' does seem the most appropriate soundtrack for the place. As for the game, we went 1-0 up after missing a penalty, Southend piled on relentless pressure in the second half and a City own goal gave them a deserved draw in the last minutes of injury time. Bollocks. |
