urban75: crisis and support resources

Many people use the U75 boards to gain support in times of stress and difficulty. While we recognise this as one of the valuable aspects of the U75 community, we are not able to provide any kind of professional mental health service on the boards.

If you are suffering from depression, stress or other mental health problems, we advise that you discuss your concerns with your GP who may be able to refer you on for NHS counselling if appropriate.

Provides a resource for finding a counsellor in your area as well as other useful info

Befrienders suicide and crisi support
Trained volunteers offering confidential emotional support to people feeling suicidal.

Canadian Counselling Association Provides a resource for finding a counsellor in your area with other useful info.

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
This site has a 'find therapist' section that enables you to find a qualified and insured counsellor or therapist in your area. The site also provides a brief account of the different types of therapy available as well as information about therapist codes of ethics and training. Most therapists will work on a sliding scale of fees, according to the client's means.

Depression Alliance
is a UK charity for people affected by depression. This web site contains information about the symptoms of depression, treatments for depression, as well as Depression Alliance campaigns and local groups.

Mind
The MindinfoLine offers confidential help on a range of mental health issues. Call 0845 766 0163 from anywhere in the UK for the price of a local call. Local Mind network: Established in 1946, Mind now has a network of 210 local Mind associations throughout England and Wales. Our LMAs offer supported housing, crisis helplines, drop-in centres, counselling, befriending, advocacy, employment and training schemes, and other services. More than 1,300 people belong to Mind Link - a network for users of mental health services - offering each other support, sharing experiences and developing skills.

SANELINE: 0845 767 8000 (charged at local rates)
SANELINE was established in 1992 as the first national out-of-hours telephone helpline offering practical information, crisis care and emotional support to anybody affected by mental health problems. The service is open from 12 noon until 2am and receives tens of thousands of calls every year from service users, family members, carers and health professionals.

WPF Counselling and Psychotherapy
WPF is a charity providing psychodynamic counselling through a network of national centres. Fees on a sliding scale. This link takes you to the page where you can find a WPF Centre in your area. The site also contains information about psychodynamic counselling.
