We checked out two preserved steam railway lines on our hols - the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, which took us to the edge of the glorious Lake Windemere, and the diminutive Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, which rattled some seven miles up to a remote terminus at Dalegarth.

We managed to get in a few good walks while we were staying in Cartmel in Cumbria, right on the edge of the Lake District.

There's some big updates in the photo section after our weekend in the Lake District - we'd gone up early for a friend's wedding so we could take in some country walks.
Here's the first batch of photos from around Grange Over Sands - a Victorian seaside resort without any sea - and the beautifully unspoilt village of Cartmel. Grange Over Sands - station and promenade Cartmel Village Cartmel Village Priory Labels: cartmel, grange over sands, lake district Link |
