New Piccadilly Café - end of the line
Report by urban75 editor, updated 22nd December 2007
Once described as "the cathedral of cafes," rising rents have sealed the fate of the legendary New Piccadilly restaurant in central London.
With its decor set firmly in the 1950s - all Formica and Festival of Britain - the cafe has proved a magnet for people looking to escape the corporate blandness of Starbucks, Cafe Nero et al, but even a late surge of customers failed to save this much loved landmark.
