Crowds and riot police in Trafalgar Square

The protest was quickly split into two substantial groups, one in Trafalgar Square the other in Parliament Square, busying itself with a spot of impromptu gardening.

A huge police presence separated the two groups, and as people got fed up with being forcibly kept in by the police, tempers rose.
