The Actionettes at Viva Cake
Big night out at the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, London
With a frothing review in Time Out declaring the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club to be the 'best club in London,' large queues rapidly formed outside the venue on a wet April evening.
The Viva Cake event takes place every third Saturday of the month and kicks off early at 4.30pm, with punters pleasured by free tea, cakes and sandwiches served by girls in roller skates.
The entertainment comes in the shape of dominoes, cards, fortune tellers, snakes and ladders, a Beauty bar, dance classes, live bands and, of course, a performance by the Actionettes and the Action Men.
The music is 50s style throughout, with the DJ spinning the likes of The Barker Band, Vincent Vincent and the Villains, The Pipettes, The Schla La Las, Fast Lane Roogalator , The Puppini Sisters, The Polecats, The Brick Lane Boogie Boys and Holly Golightly.

Featuring Delia Dansette (The Schla la las, The A-lines) on bass, Manic Cough ripped out a feisty Blondie/Siouxsie/Slits meets 60s slab of pop noise. Great fun!

Actionettes danced to upbeat 60s rug-cutters like, 'Stop Look And Listen,' 'Run For Your Life' and 'Fingerpopping.'.
The dressed up crowd certainly know how to go for it!
