We've pulled out all the stops for this massive party celebrating our 5th anniversary and the urban75 editor's birthday, with a fantastic bill including the punk-folk anarchy of FILTHY PEDRO, awesome ale-trembling tunes from THE NO FRILLS BAND, guest appearances from go-go dancers THE ACTIONETTES and political humour from VIC LAMBRUSCO. We'll also have special guests and a full bill of DJs throwing down a floor-filling mix all night.
LIVE BANDS:
FILTHY PEDRO
The dirtiest lo-fi-DIY-punk-folk artist and pioneers of the UK anti-folk scene, Filthy's anarchic stage shows and tales of Lancaster Bombers, kinky tales of antiquity and being booted out of Angelsey make this a must-see gig.
"Early Happy Mondays meets The Fall meets the Pistols in a drunken folk club. This noisy bunch of anti-folk loons will have you grinning from ear to ear with sheer anarchic delight" HotGigsUK
"A raucous, indeed filthy, songwriter whose tracks fit somewhere between Jeffrey Lewis's mordant wordplay and the beat-up folk of Will Oldham's Palace Brothers" Metro Newspaper
"Author of couplet of the decade: Drinking Jack Daniel's in the bathtub/Making a pact with Beelzebub" Lauren Laverne
THE NO FRILLS BAND
Full on Brixton folk serving up a house shaking, beer-spilling feast of clattering spoons, banging antlers, parping tubas, mandolins, fiddles, tin whistles, accordions and more.
"Fantastic, rabble rousing urban tunes... a delight to watch!"
PLUS:
GUEST APPEARANCE BY THE ACTIONETTES
A ballroom blitzkrieg of shimmying, sparkling, synchronised routines from this all-girl dance troupe, kicking their shiny white boots to 60s girl group classics. As seen on Charlie Brooker's TV show and BBC2's Culture Show, these stars of Ladyfest 2008 are not to be missed!
"With each shake of the hips, the smiles get wider..." The Independent
A TURN BY VIC LAMBRUSCO
Co-founder of London's first independent 'performance poetry' club, the Hard Edge, BBC regular Vic slams down politically incorrect, in-yer-face verse, which seeks to entertain rather than obfuscate.
"Awesome.... funny as fuck" John Cooper-Clarke
"urban verse with a hard edge" Observer.
SPECIAL PA BY LADY LYKEZ
An exciting young Hip Hop/Grime UK female artist with a rising reputation, Lady Lykez appeared on the London Urban Collective III ATL album ('rough edged grime and hip-hop with often wise and witty wordplay' - DJ magazine) before storming the notorious Club Apache open mic night in Atlanta, USA.
She recently completed an album in Mali, Africa with Akala, Bashy, Kele Le Roc, Silverstone for 'Routes to Rootz' funded by Bigga Fish and she's now back in the UK and ready to showcase her unique sound, "echoing the distinctive UK take of an artist like Dizzee Rascal mixed with the vocal dexterity and off kilter song structures of Missy Elliot."
VIDEOS
Photography slideshow, festival footage and any weird stuff we find lurking on old video tapes.
PLUS A BULGING BAG OF OF TOP DJS!
We'll have a full crew of hard-drinking Offline regulars playing till the early hours, including:
EDITOR (urban75)
Expect an ale-fuelled, fun-packed feast of ska, punk, rock'n'roll, big band and rockabilly in a floor stomping package.
NIPSLA (Falling over studios)
With more pop than a fridge of rola cola you'll be hard pushed not to get out of your seat and shuffle like an idiot to her bright DJ bag of joy full of indie, electro and party tunes.
DUBVERSION (People's Republic of Disco)
Takes pride in having no skills but lots of tunes. From dub to country to gospel and most points in between.
BLUESTREAK (the immortal Beyond Fathomability Soundsystem)
East London, all-vinyl soundsystem playing breaks, bass, reggae, soul, dubstep, bastard pop, and charity shop oddments.
