We had an extra special DJ night lined up, featuring DJ Velvelette and DJ Castanette from the wonderful Actionettes go go dancers, plus the return of pop-tastic tunepicker extraordinaire Nipsla from the Mrs Mills Experience, backed by the lager fatigued DJ Editor and the dancehall vinyl spinner Simon Subvert - and it was also Ms Kitschenette's birthday!
The dancefloor resonated to an uplifting mix of rock and roll, 60s heartbreakers, ska, reggae, indie, punk, skiffle, Tom, Kylie, Beyonce, Mrs Mills, Black Sabbath and more - with a few surprises thrown in the mix.
PHOTOS FROM THE DANCEFLOOR:
Actionettes on the decks!
A triumvirate of DJs.
THE ACTIONETTES
An all-girl gang of DJ Castanette and DJ Velvelette from the wonderful go-go Actionettes behind the decks, serving up heartbreak indie, soul, Motown and Sixties Go-Go.
NIPSLA (Falling over studios)
Packing more pop than a Rice Krispies factory, Nipsla's DJ bag is a veritable jumble sale of joy, overflowing with indie, dance, electro and party tunes.
SIMON SUBVERT
The card shuffling dancehall wizzkid will be dropping some big dance tunes all night in an all vinyl showcase.
EDITOR (urban75)
An ale-fuelled onslaught of ska, punk, rock'n'roll, big band, rockabilly, Mrs Mills and Liberace in a floor stomping package.
Videos and photo slideshows of street photography, random amusements and weird shizzle from the internet.
The Albert is less than two minutes walk from Brixton station and a few minutes from the Brixton Academy.
Turn left out of the tube station, take the second left down Coldharbour Lane (by the KFC), go past the Prince of Wales and it's the next pub on your left.
