The bleak beauty of Dungeness
A summer afternoon in the most southerly point in Kent
Photos and report by Mike Slocombe, July 2006
Dungeness photos (part two)
This was most odd - right in the middle of an empty patch of shingle was this massive collection of British Telecom manhole covers!
Fisherman's hut.
Another view of the hut.
Rusting winding gear which was presumably used to drag fishing boats up over the shingle.
Wooden boat and hut.
Green hut with fishing net.
Boat and old narrow gauge railway line, used to haul the fish up to the road.
Decorated garden.
Ness Cottage.
Prospect Cottage, the former home of artist and film director Derek Jarman.
One side of the black-painted cottage bears the words of a poem written in wooden lettering.
Tin shed.
Scattered huts on the horizon.
Old fresh fish shop.
Meet W Fagg of Lydd Lodge!
Cottage in poor repair.
