Morris Dancer and beer Believed to be a legacy of Druidic springtime rites or a custom brought back to England after the Moorish conquests, the first written record of Morris Dancers dates back to the 15th Century. During the 16th century Morris dance was performed before the courts of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, and Shakespeare's play Henry V refers to the Whitsun Morris dances. The custom fell into sharp decline by the last half of the 19th century, although there has been a considerable revival in recent years. » Morris Federation please donate! copyright/licensing |
