Train crossing Hungerford Bridge
A Connex train rumbles over the Hungerford bridge river bridge on its way to Charing Cross station.

The bridge is London's only combined foot/rail crossing and was built on the piers of the 1845 pedestrian suspension footbridge (the suspension chains were subsequently used in the construction of the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol).

The stench of the Thames used to be so bad that the bridge remained unused in summers!
