NYC: MIDTOWN 2005 Empire State Post 9/11, once again the tallest building in New York, the Art Deco the tower takes its name from the nickname of New York State. The building progressively tapers to the top, a requirement enforced by the New York City zoning law of 1916, which aimed to reduce the shadows cast by tall buildings. The tower hosts nearly all of New York's commercial broadcast stations, a tradition started back in the late 1930s when RCA leased the 85th floor. [November 2005] please donate! copyright/licensing |
