Flatiron building Considered the oldest remaining skyscraper in New York, the 1902-built Flatiron Building stands 285 feet tall. It's six foot wide apex expands into a limestone wedge adorned with Gothic and Renaissance details. Local legend dictates that the building created vortexes that would cause passing women's skirts to fly up, attracting crowds of young men watching from 23rd Street. Police would try to disperse these thrill seekers by telling them to "23 Skidoo." please donate! copyright/licensing |
