Coney Island sunset

In 1609 the English explorer, mariner and adventurer, Henry Hudson, is said to have put in at Coney Island before continuing into New York harbour.

The area was established as a seaside resort from 1829 onwards when Coney Island House was opened, peaking in the 40s and 50s, before the inevitable decline.
