Frozen Lake, Central Park

Starting life as a muddy swamp, Central Park was the work of Messrs Vaux and Olmsted who imported 500,000 cubic feet of topsoil from New Jersey in 1870 to create this 843-acre park.

In this January view, the lake was completely frozen over.
