Chrysler Tower from 42nd Street
Built on the site of the old Bloomingdale Brewery, this incredible building was briefly the tallest in the world after a fierce competition with 40 Wall St.
Both buildings went up simultaneously and Wall St thought it has clinched the title - until the Chrysler suddenly sprouted a clandestinely-assembled seven-story spire!
Incidentally, Walter P. Chrysler had instructed his builders to make sure his toilet was the highest in Manhattan!
