Bethesda Fountain

The Central Park fountain is dominated by 'Angel of the Waters' statue, created by Emma Stebbins and unveiled in 1873

The neoclassical winged female figure apparently symbolises and celebrates the purifying of the city’s water supply when the Croton Aqueduct opened in 1842 to bring fresh water to New Yorkers.
