Pearly outfits
Pearly Kings and Queens used to raise money for fellow Costermongers (street traders), by street singing, and this custom has continued to modern times, with 'Pearlies' now collecting for charity.

The tradition of sewing on buttons was an adaptation of the 19th Century fashion of adorning suits and dresses with pearl buttons.
