The Three Tuns pub, Hay-on-Wye
We celebrate Hay's oldest boozer
Photos and report by Mike Slocombe, May 2006 (updated 18 Nov 2008)
The Grade II listed boozer had been in landlady Lucy Powell's family for 85 years, and is said to have been a favoured watering hole for the Great Train Robbers while they were on the run in 1963.
Sadly damaged by fire in Feb 2005, Hay's oldest pub faced an uncertain future before being snapped up by a regular for £251,000 at an auction at the end of June, 2006.
Here's our small photo-tribute to the 'Last Free House In Wales' - we look forward to getting a pint there on our return.

Happily, the pub has survived and apparently prospers, although it's now an upmarket gastropub, serving up desserts "sexily arrayed on square black plates."
