Cardiff Bay Barrage

Construction of the controversial barrage started in 1994 (completed in 1999) and created a freshwater inland lake, fed by the Taff and Ely rivers.

The barrage features 3 locks and bascule bridges for boats to enter or leave, five sluice gates to regulate bay water levels, and a 'fish pass' to allow fish to return to the bay.
