Leaving Penarth Pier Passengers from Minehead walk along the length of the 650ft (197m) pier. During the August Bank Holiday of 1931 a major fire started in the seaward end pavilion, spreading almost the entire length of the pier within minutes. Some 800 people had to be evacuated, with a pilot cutter and local yachtsmen rescuing people marooned at the pier head. [Aug 2003] please donate! copyright/licensing |
