The Norman Keep, Cardiff Castle

Standing on a great Norman motte (man made hill), this stone keep was built around 1140, possibly in response to a Welsh uprising.

The last great Welsh uprising began in 1400, and in 1404 the town of Cardiff was burned and the castle sacked by Owain Glyndwr.
