Then and Now: 'Alfie' - Michael Caine in Station Road
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1966 What looks like an early morning view of Michael Caine walking east along Brixton Station Road in a still from the film 'Alfie' (Chapter 16, 1 min 30 secs, DVD owners!)
The two white boards above shops to the left carry the name, 'Prideaux', while the art deco dome of Marks and Spencer can be seen in the distance.
Nov 2005 The Brixton Recreation Centre has now obliterated the row of shops to the right, while a row of market stalls line the south side of Brixton Station Road.
The railway arches have acquired safety railings and the pavement is now lined with bollards.
