"Chris Boyd's knowing deadpan approach builds on glorious puns about Battlestar Galactica and the Jason Bourne movies as he highlights the murky corners of his life." CHORTLE
plus JOE CAIRO putting the 'angst' in 'gangster.' The one and only original hard man of poetry performs a captivating set of poetry that gives a good kicking to the myths of poets writing about flowers and clouds, sharp writing with an even sharper sense of humour, and PHIL DORAN.
8PM (Top floor) EXCLUSIVE FILM SCREENING:
"MST - Landless Farmers and the Biggest March in Brazilian History"
This compelling documentary dig into the roots and motivations of Brazil's revolutionary Landless Farmers' Movement, and there'll be with a post-film Q&A with director Gibby Zobel.
The MST celebrates its 25th birthday this year, and is revered as one of the most successful and dynamic social movements in the world - yet it is often vilified by the Brazilian media, and its members constantly threatened by violence and persecution, frequently at the hands of the country's large landowners. Zobel's documentary follows the movement on what became the longest protest march in Brazilian history, when thousands of members walked to Brasilia for their cause, a unique chance to see the real stories behind the MST's famous red flags, and the people who make up this remarkable movement.
Zobel is a writer and filmmaker who spends his time in London and Brazil. He is a regular contributor to the BBC world service and Al Jazeera's English language website. He was news editor of The Big Issue from 1998 to 2002 and co-founded the weekly SchNEWS in 1994. More info
