George Washington Bridge, West 178th St

This two-level suspension bridge crosses the Hudson River between upper Manhattan and Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Designed by O H. Ammann, the bridge opened for traffic on Oct 25, 1931, with the lower level added in Aug 1962 - increasing the bridge's capacity by 75%, making it the world's only 14-lane suspension bridge - and one of the busiest.
