The long closed Brixton Free Off Licence, Railton Road, Herne Hill.
The flamboyant and much loved Railton Road Off Licence, complete with sign advertising, 'Elecletronic Top Up.'
Many of what was once a long strip of small shops and businesses at the northern end of Railton Road have vanished. Here's the former premises at numbers 56-58.
Railton Road changes into Atlantic Road as it approaches Coldharbour Lane.
This restaurant/bar has been through an ever rotating list of names in recent years with changing fortunes.
Five years ago, it was called Neon, before renaming itself to the tragically ill-advised 'Bang Bang' (strapline: "come to Brixton for a double shot!" complete with a gun on the leaflet).
Two young kids had been shot in McDonalds just a few days before the launch, so after an outcry, the bar became 'The Bar With No Name.' That didn't last too long though, as it's now known as the Tangiers Bar (which they've managed to misspell as 'Tangeir' on their sign!).
In the time it's taken to type this, it's probably been renamed.
Peggy's Cafe, 75 Atlantic Road.
'Vincent Atkins Family Foundation House' office on Atlantic Road.
The writing on the wall says, "Floris Vincent
Adassa
Blackstock
Francis
Family Foundation
New world order."
Its current use is something of a mystery, with a poster on our board commenting: "The Vincent Atkins is a bit of a bizarre one. There was some dispute over ownership or something a long while back, with posters and protests everywhere. Ever since then there have been sporadic bursts of activity once in a while, with the doors remaining shut afterwards."
Liverpool FC-mad Fab Cuts Barbers and "The People's Weatherman Store, Brixton style" at 55 and 57 Atlantic Road.
The long-serving Brixton Wholefoods (transatlantic) store, which used to be situated on the other side of the road in the shop now occupied by The Lounge cafe/bar.
