When you see such craftsmanship like this, it seems incredible that the entire building came so close to demolition in the 1960s - what were the planners thinking?!

Sadly, nearby Euston Station wasn't so lucky - its fine buildings were flattened in the 1960s and replaced by a universally loathed modern structure.
