winter's morning, cefn onn halt This is another view of Cefn Onn Halt, taken from the old wooden footbridge that would carry walkers into a little known park opposite. It was one of my favourite places. I used to catch a train to work here, but seeing as the station was a 'request stop' that meant trying to flag the train down as it came hurtling out of the darkness of the mile-long Caerffili tunnel. In Winter, when the mornings were dark (there were no lights on the platform), that often meant frantically waving a torch around in the blackness of the secluded valley. Sometimes the driver would see me too late and reverse the train back, much to the annoyance of commuters. Other times of course the train would happily sail by, oblivious to my fate, leaving me to concoct another excuse for my late arrival at work. Since this picture was taken, the station has been closed, the footbridge demolished and 'exclusive' building developments have ruined the tranquility of the park. » Cefn Onn feature all photos©urban75 2003 |
