42nd Street, Manhattan New York in the Eighties was a far rougher place than it is now. Walking down 42nd Street towards the Chrysler Building, I saw my first ever mugging. A big dude came up behind a small Oriental guy, put his hands in his pockets, pulled out his wallet and calmly walked off in my direction. I briefly considered playing the hero, but quickly realised that it would be One Bad Idea - not only because I'd probably get flattened but because it looked highly unlikely that anyone around would be interested in helping out!
